Flightplan

Lee ***

Another "Panic Room like" film by Jodie Foster, but it kept me entertained.

Just Like Heaven

Lee: ***

What can I say - Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffolo are adorable in this sweet romance. The story is light, entertaining, and heart warming. I loved it.

The Constant Gardner

Angela: ** Louis: **

They should have called this one "The Return of The English Patient", as this is film that received high marks from the critics but just didn't click with us.
The first half of the film was interesting as the story shifted around in time and as our understanding (and misunderstanding) of the various characters developed.
Technically the film was very good, with excellent performance by Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz. However ultimately the film seemed a little long and we weren't very satisfied with the resolution of the story.
We recommend a strong cup of coffee before viewing.
(The Constant Gardener, continued)
Lee *** PoP ***1/2

Being from the '60s, I guess we were both moved by the social content of the film. More so than Lee, I depend on several meds, and to think that they were possibly developed in this manner is sickening. The acting was superb and the backward/forward cuts enhansed the experience and furthered the suspense.

Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price

Angela: *** Louis: **1/2

A shocking look into the practices of Wal-Mart - the world's largest retailer and the US's single largest employer. Some of the information we already knew, but there was a great deal we didn't. One of the biggest issues is the fact that Wal-Mart pays their workers such a low wage and the health care plan they do offer is priced so high that they officially endorse and recommend that their workers seek out government aid (Medic-aid, food stamps, etc.). This amounts to millions and millions of tax payer dollars indirectly subsidizing Wal-Mart's costs of operation. Another surprising issue is the high occurrence of crime (theft, rape, murder, etc.) within Wal-Mart parking lots, and Wal-Mart's apparent unwillingness to pay for any security.

Not quite as entertaining or well produced as Super Size Me, but it did contain a great deal of information and we definitely don't plan on shopping there anytime soon.

Stuck On You

Sabine: ** Leighton: ***

The Farrelly Brothers know how to make outragious comedies that still have a sweet side (Shallow Hal). Stuck On You is no different. Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear are Siamese Twins ("We're not Siamese...we're American") who run a fast food restaurant in Martha's Vineyard. Walt (Kinnear) wants to be an actor and Bob (Damon) gets stage fright. So they head off to Hollywood. I'm still trying to figure out how they can be conjoined without being identical. Maybe the shared liver is doing more than make Walt age faster. Overall, a pretty cute movie.

Murderball

Angela: *** Louis: ***

A very interesting documentary about quadriplegic athletes who play full-contact rugby in specialized wheel chairs. The film describes their sport (originally called "Murderball") through the intense rivalry between the United States and Canadian national and Paralympic Teams, as well as tells the personal story of the athletes: how they were originally disabled and how they manage to overcome the limitations of their disabilities.

Rated R for language and sexual content.
