The Conversation

We've been recently working our way through Ebert's list of four star movies. See his review. This is one that was fairly entertaining - for a movie from the 70's. Can someone explain to me why films before 1980 were sooooo slowwww paced? I'm not looking for an MTV video or anything, but please - I can follow the plot without 120 seconds of a character brushing his teeth. Move it along! This one at least had a bit of an interesting twist at the end.

The Alamo (2004)

This was a pretty good movie about the group of Texans holding out against the Mexican army at the Alamo in San Antonio at the time Texas was trying to get its independence from Mexco. Dennis Quaid stars as Sam Houston, Billy Bob Thornton stars as Davy Crockett, and Jason Patric stars as James Bowie. It was a little slow in parts, but it was a decent movie overall. You always hear the "Remember the Alamo" quote, but I never really knew exactly what had happened there. It was a pretty good history lesson in that context.
