The Lady Vanishes (1938)

Leighton & Sabine: *** 1/2

We decided to rent an old Hitchcock mystery for the hell of it (I read about it in Newsweek months ago) and it was a lot of fun. While on a train trip, a lady vanishes (duh) and no one on the train claims to remember her. I never saw Flightplan, but it immediately reminded me of what I saw in the trailers for it. Sabine did see it, and said they were similar. I can't find anything saying that it was a remake of this, though. Anyway, it wasn't nearly as boring as some of the old 1930s and 1940s movies can be.

The Second Coming (2003)

Leighton: ***

This was a made for TV movie in England, written by Russell T. Davies (who created the original Queer as Folk, Casanova that I reviewed about a year ago, and who went on to bring Doctor Who back to television) and starring Christopher Eccleston (who starred in Doctor Who its first season back) as Stephen Baxter, who one night realizes he is the Son of God. I enjoyed it for the most part. It was interesting how Stephen's friends and family, and people in general, reacted to the news. I loaned it to Mom afterwards, and she watched it, too. She can email me her reaction, and I'll add them to this post later. Sorry so brief. Gotta run.
